Book Summary
Continuing The Cuchara Chronicles (Gary Bridges’ first novel), Steve Curry, his big dog, Samson, and the General, reunite in beautiful Cuchara, Colorado. Steves’s good friend, Taylor Youngblood, a Ute Indian, and his ancestors, provide a compelling and exciting look into the Cuchara Valley’s rich history. The early Ute Indians, led by their great chief, Towaoc, reside with and battle the Spanish settlers crowding into the Ute’s homeland at the base of the majestic Wahatoyas. Towaoc’s family survives harsh weather, kidnapping, ruthless renegade Indians and a Spanish attack. The reader learns the truth about the legend of the Purgatoire River, and the source of Sven’s gold. |
Lane Curry has to call his old friend, Mark Garrett, a former federal agent, to help sort out some very mysterious activities taking place at the present-day Ute reservation casino. They involve the casino’s manager, a savvy North Korean, and Syrian terrorists. Before long, federal agents descend on the casino for a thrilling take-down. Even the general gets involved.
A raging forest fire traps Steve and several campers at Bear Lake. It’s up to him to lead them out over Indian Creek Trail before the fire engulfs them. Some tricky low-level flying by a retired Air Force pilot in a slurry bomber is their only chance.
Lane gets involved in conceiving and promoting a bold new concept to replace the aging and sickly Cuchara Valley Ski resort. It will take big money but the outcome may surprise everyone.
