The majestic Wahatoyas, home to the Ute Indians and some of the earliest Spanish settlers in Southern Colorado. The ancient mountains, now referred to as the Spanish Peaks, consist of East Peak and West Peak. Today they are the defining geological feature in the Cuchara Valley and stand watch over La Veta, Colorado.
